Fixture & ballast compatibility

Compatible application references

Use in fixtures that specify a 42W four-pin compact fluorescent lamp with the GX24q-4 keying and a compatible ballast. Common applications include:

  • Commercial recessed downlights labeled for F42TBX / GX24q-4
  • Wall sconces and wall packs labeled for 42W GX24q-4 CFL
  • Hospitality and restaurant fixtures labeled for F42TBX
  • Retail display and office fixtures labeled for 42W four-pin CFL
  • Warehouse and utility fixtures using a compatible 42W CFL ballast

GX24q bases are keyed by wattage. Do not force the lamp into a different G24q/GX24q socket, and do not connect it directly to branch-circuit voltage.

These lamps share the 42W GX24q-4 physical and electrical family but produce different light colors. Confirm the desired color suffix as well as the ballast and base.

LED retrofit planning

Current Lighting lists separate horizontal and vertical LED retrofit paths for this fluorescent family. Those products are not automatically plug-and-play replacements: ballast compatibility, lamp orientation, wiring method, fixture rating, and local electrical requirements must be checked before conversion.

Safety and disposal

Disconnect power and allow the lamp to cool before replacement. Hold the plastic base rather than the glass tubes. Use only with a compatible fixture and ballast; do not bypass the ballast or rewire the fixture unless a qualified person is installing a listed retrofit product according to its instructions.

This fluorescent lamp contains mercury. Follow applicable lamp-recycling and disposal requirements. If a lamp breaks, ventilate the area and follow current environmental-agency cleanup guidance.

The legacy “120V lamp” wording was removed because the lamp operates through a compatible ballast; fixture input voltage alone does not establish lamp compatibility.
